A Tamil Makkal Peravai demonstration, initiated by North Province Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran was held near the Kalladi clock tower, today (10).
The protestors are demanding that lands occupied by the military are restored, their missing are found, that the Tamil-Hindu culture in the North and East is left undisturbed and that the Northern and Southern parts of the country are united.
The demonstration titled ‘Eluga Tamil’ meaning ‘rise up Tamils’ began at Kalladi clock tower and halted at Kalladi bridge, Batticaloa.
Jaffna District MP Dharmalingam Siddharthan, Batticaloa District MP S. Viyalendran, Former District MP Suresh Premachandran,Eastern Province MP R.Thurairatnam andTamil Makkal Peravai Chairman S. Vasantharaja participated in the protest.
