<p><img src="" alt="Featured Image"></p><p><!-- wp:html --><p>The Health Ministry recently replaced a 17-year-old CT scanner at the Matara General Hospital.A senior spokesperson for the Health Ministry told The Island that the new scanner had been provided at a cost of Rs 200 mn, and it could perform 40 to 50 scans daily.</p>
<p>The official said that the Matara Hospital had managed with the ageing CT scanner for about two years amidst difficulties. "In spite of difficulties, we used parts obtained from discarded CT scanners that had been previously installed at Anuradhapura and Batticaloa hospitals to run the Matara operation," he said, adding that the machine carried out approximately 50 scans a day.</p>
<p>Health Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana told the staff that the ministry would make available Rs 20 mn for minor development work at the hospital in addition to Rs 35 mn provided a few months earlier.
