Imeth De Silva clinches Galle Scrabble Championship

The Galle Scrabble Championship, organized by the Southern Scrabble League, took place on March 29th and 30th, 2024, at the Samoda Reception Hall in Galle. It was an open category tournament consisting of 18 games. The Galle Scrabble championship was approved by the Scrabble Federation of Sri Lanka as a nationally rated event. A total of 38 players from both Colombo and Galle participated in the tournament, including many school children, showcasing the widespread interest and participation in Scrabble across different age groups.

Imeth De Silva, the current National Champion, emerged victorious in the tournament with an impressive performance of 13 wins and a spread of 1,421. Nimuthu Sipsara of Richmond College secured the runner-up position with 13 wins and a spread of 957, while Thulnith De Silva, also from Richmond College and the present junior national champion, secured the second runner-up position with 12 wins and a spread of 1,251. Dineth Fernando of Nalanda College was recognized as the youngest performer in the top ten players, highlighting his talent and potential in the Scrabble arena. Additionally, Sachiv Prasath and Udhev Prasath of Lyceum College Wattala received awards for being the best performers in the under 15 and under 13 categories, respectively, showcasing the talent emerging from younger age groups.
