Unfair! TikToker points out how Guneet Monga’s speech was cut off at Oscars

New Delhi: Guneet Monga and Kartiki Gonsalves, two Indian women, have become the buzz of the town due to their pure dedication and hard work. The Elephant Whisperers has made the country proud by winning the coveted Golden Globe for Best Documentary Short.

Every filmmaker has a prepared Oscar speech in their head at some point or another. Guneet and Kartiki also did. Guneet took the microphone after Kartiki had finished, but as soon as the Oscar-specific music began to play, she was forced to skip her big moment—her speech on stage. While there have been numerous conversations over the matter, one TikToker emphasised how unfairly Guneet was denied the opportunity to receive recognition on stage while the other winners were not.

Guneet Monga’s speech was cut off at Oscars

Guneet Monga, the producer of the Netflix documentary The Elephant Whisperers, has done the country proud. She and director Kartiki Gonsalves walked up to the platform to accept their awards. As Kartiki finished her statement in 43 seconds, music began to play as soon as Guneet seized the microphone.

The following prize in the Best Animated Short category was revealed shortly after. It was awarded to Charles Mackesy and Matthew Freud for their work on The Boy, the Mole, the Fox, and the Horse. Their remarks lasted more than 45 seconds. Neither, however, was removed from the stage. The disparity was pointed out by a TikToker with the username @iam7evn, and it has gone popular on social media.

When Guneet Monga did not get to have her Oscar moment on stage for the speech, the producer was unfazed. She later delivered her speech and shared it on social media.
