The hard work behind creating The Elephant Whisperers

For a number of reasons, India is proud of its victory. The Oscars’ performance by two women, Guneet Monga and Kartiki Gonsalves, carrying their awards in hand, was a watershed event for women in film. Before moving on with the film’s production, Kartiki spent more than five years conducting study on the issue. It was reportedly difficult to locate producers and big stars to support the idea in its early stages.

How can it shape the future of Indian Documentaries?

Guneet Monga, who’s a co-producer on the film, went all out to ensure that the short film got audiences not just in India but all over the world.

The win at the Oscars not only opens doors for future short filmmakers but also for women writers, directors and producers who plan to back a similar project. Documentary as a genre might not be as exciting as the main feature film, but The Elephant Whisperers win is definitely going to change that.
