School vans, container transport services to reduce fares

All-Island Inter-District Schoolchildren Transport Association and the All Island Container Transport Owners Federation have decided to reduce the fees for school transport services and freight container transportation by eight percent in line with the reduction in fuel prices.

All-Island Inter-District Schoolchildren Transport Association Chairman, N.M.K Harishchandra Padmasiri said that his Association decided to reduce school children’s transport fee by 8 percent in order to pass on the benefit of the diesel price reduction to parents. He said that further relief can be given to parents if the government takes steps to reduce the revenue licence and insurance fees. He also emphasized that it would be good if attention has been given to reducing the prices of spare parts including batteries.

All Island Container Transport Owners Federation Chairman Sanath Manjula said that the Executive Committee of his Association has decided to reduce the freight container transportation charges by eight percent to provide the benefits of fuel price reduction to the people.

He also said that if the price of spare parts and tires is reduced, that relief can also be given to the people. However, there is no reduction in the price of spare parts currently and the price of spare parts is sold at different prices at various places. He said that controlled price should be stipulated over spare parts and the authorities should pay attention to it.
