Recovery path should not be scuttled - Minister

Foreign Affairs Minister Ali Sabry, PC yesterday said that four countries have given debt restructuring assurances to the International Monetary Fund (IMF). 

The Minister said that Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Hungary and Kuwait have stood with Sri Lanka at these testing times and provided debt restructuring assurances to the IMF.

“Generations of Sri Lankans will always cherish your friendship and support,” he said.

He said that long overdue reforms for the economic recovery of the country should not be disrupted for political reasons.

“Here is a realistic possibility that we set a sustainable path for recovery.We shouldn’t sabotage these necessary yet long overdue reforms for political reasons”, the Foreign Affairs Minister tweeted.

He said stressed the need of preserving and protecting the State.

“We must understand governments may come and go, the State must be preserved and protected”, he said.
