President to honour four distinguished women

In line with International Women’s Day, which falls on today, President Ranil Wickremesinghe will honour four distinguished women who have raised the image, courage and pride of Sri Lankan women nationally and internationally today in Colombo.

Accordingly, Dr. Sujatha Attanayake, Kalasuri Sriyani Amarasena, Anula da Silva and Rashmi Nimesha Gunawardena will be felicitated by the President as proud and distinguished women figures.

“International Women’s Day celebrations have been held in Sri Lanka since 1978 with various unique and meaningful themes aiming to value and evaluate women with outstanding characteristics while motivating other women. Parallel to the International Women’s Day celebrations held this year under the theme ‘She is the pride of God’ several many other events have been scheduled to be conducted covering the entire country,” Women, Children Affairs and Social Empowerment State Minister Kala Keerthi Geetha Kumarasinghe said.

She added that 25 women who have become the best entrepreneurs from the district level will be selected and evaluated by giving prizes and certificates during the celebration ceremony which will be held today at 10.00 am at the Water’s Edge Hotel in Battaramulla, Colombo.

According to the State Minister, no Government funds have been utilised for today’s International Women’s Day celebration since several external parties including the United Nations Population Fund have financially assisted.
