Minister calls for IGP to probe into Ella Odyssey, Seethawaka Odyssey train delays

Transport, Highway and Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardena has requested from the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to conduct a special inquiry on several complaints related to the Ella Odyssey train and the Seethawaka Odyssey train and determine whether there is any attempt of sabotage in the Railway Department.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has already launched an investigation into the Ella Odyssey train, and the Minister has requested to expand it to include the Seethawaka Odyssey train.

A national newspaper last week reported on an attempt by a private institution to sell a ticket of the Ella Odyssey train at USD 99.99 (Rs.36,000) via online.

The Seethawaka Odyssey train, which was full as all seats were reserved, did not begin at Colombo Fort at the scheduled time of 7am yesterday (5). The Minister has requested to look into these issues and see whether those were deliberate attempts.

The Minister will also meet the Railway senior staff led by the General Manager and the Trade Union representatives tomorrow (7) at the Ministry premises.
