Minister Ali Sabry leaves for London to attend 22 nd Common Wealth Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

The Commonwealth Day celebrations are scheduled to be held today (13) at Marlborough House in London.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister Mr. Ali Sabry, PC will be attending the event held in London from today onwards.

Accordingly, Minister Ali Sabri will attend the 22nd Commonwealth Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (CFAMM) to be held on 15 March at the Commonwealth Headquarters in Marlborough House, London. The focus of this year’s CFAMM will be on enhancing Resilience of Commonwealth Countries in times of Crisis, which reflects the difficulties experienced by many of its participants, including the pandemic, the effects of climate change, and the skyrocketing prices of food and energy that threaten peace and security.

Prior to this meeting, the Minister will participate in the Commonwealth Day celebrations to be held today (13 March).

The day also marks the 10th anniversary of the signing of the Commonwealth Charter, signed by her late Queen Elizabeth II on 11 March 2013. The member states will express their support for the initiative called “the Commonwealth of Flag for Peace” which will be launched as part of the 10 th anniversary celebrations – the Commonwealth Flag for Peace features a white dove of peace in the bottom right-hand corner of the Commonwealth flag, symbolising the shared values and principles of the Commonwealth, including co-operation on economic and social development, diversity, respect, friendship and the promotion of peace around the world. The program will conclude with a ceremony organized by King Charles III for the Foreign Ministers attending the event.

There are 56 commonwealth countries, roughly amounting to 2.6 billion people (almost 1 third of the world’s population.
