Mawanella PS Chairman removed from his post

The Chairman of the Mawanella Pradeshiya Sabha Noel Stephen was arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) in January (13 January) for accepting a bribe of Rs. 2 million from a businessman for building plan approval was removed.

Governor of the Sabaragamuwa Province Tikiri Kobbekaduwa yesterday (14 March) issued a extra ordinary gazette numbered 2323/21, dated 14 March removing the Noel Stephen from his post.

According to the Gazette, Tikiri Kobbekaduwa, Governor of the Sabaragamuwa Province has appointed a retired judicial officer as a single person commission of inquiry to ascertain whether the offences mentioned in 185 (1) of the Pradeshiya Sabha Act, No. 15 of 1987, were committed by Mr. Stephen, while holding his office as the ‘Chairman’ of the Mawanella Pradeshiya Sabha and the report has concluded that Stephen is guilty of all the allegations under Section 185(1) of the Paramecia Sabha Act, No. 15 of 1987. Governor has made his decision to terminate the chairmanship and the membership of Noel Stephen based on this report.
