Parliamentary sources say that a large number of retired Principals have applied to be appointed as members of Independent Commissions including the Election Commission and some Principals have applied for all 9 commissions. Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena said that the Constitutional Council is slated to meet again on Thursday to discuss matters including the appointment of members for Independent Commissions including the Election Commission.
The Speaker further said that some important decisions related to the appointment of members are to be decided.
“Former Chairman of the Election Commission Mahinda Deshapriya has also applied for the Election Commission,’ he told the media.
