Lakshadweep MP Md. Faizal gets back his Lok Sabha membership

New Delhi: Lok Sabha membership of Lakshadweep MP Mohammad Faizal has been restored on Wednesday. Faizal’s membership was cancelled after a lower court sentenced him to 10 years in jail in an attempt to murder case.

Later Kerala High Court ordered a stay on the lower court verdict. Then, Faizal moved the Supreme Court on Tuesday seeking restoration of his Lok Sabha membership, citing the Kerala High Court stay order in an attempt to murder case.

According to sources, Rahul Gandhi’s legal team may cite this matter before the High Court to ask for a stay on his sentence and to restore Rahul’s Lok Sabha membership.

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MP Mohammad Faizal was sentenced to 10 years in jail in a case of attempt to murder. Following his conviction he was automatically disqualified from Lok Sabha. The sentence was stayed by the Kerala High Court in January after the verdict was announced.

The Lok Sabha secretariat has issued a notice to restore the membership of Mohammad Faizal.
