Karnataka Assembly election on May 10, result on May 13; Differently-abled, 80+ elderly voters can ‘vote from home’

Karnataka Assembly Elections 2023: The election commission of India (EC) on Wednesday announced the schedule of the Karnataka Assembly Elections. The meeting was organised in the Plenary Hall of Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi. There are 224 Assembly seats in Karnataka. The election in Karnataka will be held on May 10 and the result will be declared on May 13. (Karnataka Assembly Elections 2023)

Both the BJP and the Congress parties have started giving the final touch to the preparations for the Karnataka Assembly elections.

The Congress announced the names of 124 candidates on 25 March. Former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will contest from Varuna, while Karnataka Congress President DK Shivakumar will contest from the Kanakapura constituency.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar said that 58,282 polling stations would be set up across the state. There has been an increase of 9.17 lakh first-time voters in Karnataka since 2018-19.

There are 16,000 voters above the age of 100 in Karnataka. Arrangements will be made to vote from home for these voters as well.

The Chief Election Commissioner informed that there are a total of 5,21,73,579 voters in the state. He told that there are more than 42 thousand transgender voters.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar told that those who turn 18 on April 1 will be able to vote in the elections.

Rajeev Kumar also said that people above 80 years of age will be able to vote from their homes only. He said that the Commission has made arrangements for this.

Aam Aadmi Party to contest on all seats

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on March 20 released the first list of 80 candidates who will contest the upcoming Assembly elections in Karnataka.

The party has said that it will field candidates in all the 224 Assembly constituencies in the state where Assembly elections are to be held by May.
