Jeep with forged documents seized in Kiribathgoda

The Panadura Walana Anti-Corruption Squad said that a jeep suspected to have been registered by changing the computer

data at the Motor Traffic Department was seized from a house in Kiribathgoda.

It has been revealed during preliminary investigations that the parts of the jeep had either been imported and assembled in Sri Lanka or are related to a suspected stolen vehicle, from which forged documents had been prepared for the registration.

When the person in the house was questioned, a police officer said that he had stated that he had bought this jeep from Homagama for Rs.6.5 million about two years ago.

The police officer added that the person who bought the jeep is due to be summoned to the police and that a statement will be obtained. A senior police officer said that they are trying to identify and arrest the persons who have arranged for registration by preparing forged documents and subsequent to reporting the facts to the Mahara Magistrate’s Court, reports will be obtained from the Motor Vehicles Inspection Department, the private company that imports the relevant jeeps to Sri Lanka, the Government Analyst’s office, the companies that issue emission certificates and the companies that produce number plates, in order to carry out further investigations.

The jeep has been handed over to the Kiribathgoda Police.
