IPL 2023: New rules allow best playing XI after toss, impact player, penalty on unfair movement; Read HERE

New Delhi: Just 9 days are left for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season and there are number of new rules that everyone should take notes on. Apart from impact players rule that was introduced before, here are some new rules that teams will follow in the course of tournament.

Impact player rule

Impact player rule is just similar to the substitution rule in the sports like football. As per the rule, Impact player can be brought at any time by the batting team, be it start of the innings or fall of a wicket and when player is retired. In bowling scenario, Impact player will be able to bowl entire 4 overs just like any other regular bowler. In case of retire hurt or dismissal, impact player can bowl remaining balls of that overs.

Impact player rule allows a team to have four such players named in the squad of 15 members. In case of foreign players, unless the teams decide to field fewer foreigners in their playing XI. Only four overseas players are allowed to take the field. In impact rule mainly Indian players will be seen replacing the field.

Final playing XI after the toss

As per the new rule in IPL 2023, captain will be allowed to choose their final playing XI after the toss. It will allow captains to come out with different playing XI and as per the toss result, they can change their playing XI with the appropriate impact player included.

IPL is the second league cricket in the world after SA20 to allow teams to announce their elevens after the toss.

New Penalty rule

Penalty will be imposed on the team if they failed to complete the over in the allocated time period. Unfair movements of the fielder and the wicketkeeper is also set to be penalised. Both incidents will result in a penalty of five runs and the delivery in which it happened being declared dead.

The 16th season of Indian Premier Leage (IPL) 2023 will start from March 31 (Friday). In the first match of the tournament, defending champions Gujarat Titants will take on four-time champion team Chennai Super kings (CSK) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

The 2022 season was then played primarily in Mumbai and Pune after which the first Qualifier and Eliminator were held at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The second Qualifier and the final was then played in Ahmedabad.
