An inmate who tried to escape from Kegalle prison was shot dead by prison officials.
It is said that the shooting was done when the inmate was trying to escape from the place when he was working in the prison early in the morning.
The inmate, who was injured by gunshots, died after being admitted to the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital.
The deceased is a 33-year-old resident of Malsiripuraarea, and it is reported that the person in question is in jail in a maintenance case held in the Kurunegala Magistrate’s Court.
