In past 9 yrs, India moved from women development to women-led development: PM Modi

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Monday highlighted various measures taken by the Centre regarding women’s welfare. He said India has moved from women development to women-led development since Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has come to power.

“In the last 9 years, India is moving forward with the vision of women-led development and taking it to the global stage. Women-led development is one of the significant topics at the G20 summit,” said PM Modi.

The Prime Minister was addressing a Post Budget Webinar on the subject of “Economic Empowerment of Women”. It is the 11th of a series of 12 post-budget webinars organised by the government to seek ideas and suggestions for effectively implementing the initiatives announced in the Union Budget 2023.

He added that women’s involvement in every field has increased in country. “Many fields are showcasing the power, decision-making ability of women. Nari Shakti is playing crucial role in increasing speed & scale of India’s progress.”

PM Modi hailed the Union Budget 2023 announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on February 1, this year. He called it visionary for the women’s development.

“In this budget, 80 thousand crores have been allocated for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. In the past 9 years, women self-help groups have taken loans amounting to ₹6.15 lakh crores,” he said.

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) Mission launched on June 25, 2015, which intends to provide housing for all in urban areas by year 2022. The mission provides Central Assistance to the implementing agencies through States/Union Territories (UTs) and Central Nodal Agencies (CNAs) for providing houses to all eligible families/ beneficiaries against the validated demand for houses for about 1.12 cr.

The Prime Minister further mentioned about the newly-introduced Mahila Samman Saving Certificate Scheme, which allows an individual to invest up to Rs 2 lakh in the name of a girl or woman. The scheme is valid from 2023-2025.

“Women will be given a 7.5% interest rate under Mahila Samman Saving Certificate Scheme. PM Awas Yojana has also empowered women who are homemakers. This budget has the vision of building unicorns in Self Help Groups,” said PM Modi.
