FIFA suspends Sri Lanla’s Voting Rights

At the 73 rd Fifa Congress today, 197 members voted in favour of suspending Sri Lanka’s voting rights at the FIFA elections. This is a continuation of the suspension that was enforced by the The Bureau of the FIFA Council on Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) earlier this year (21 January) for third party intervention with the FFSL Executive Committee elections.

Close to 2,000 delegates including top football executives from all around the world attended the world football governing body (FIFA)’s 73 rd Congress in Kigali, Ruwanda on Thursday (16 March).

The FIFA Congress is the highest legislative body of FIFA, which brings together top executives from FIFA, confederations and representatives from 211-member associations and other football stakeholders.

Meanwhile, 199 Council members voted in favour of the suspension of Zimbabwe’s voting rights.

At the Congress, Gianni Infantino was elected unopposed to serve a second term as the President of FIFA to lead global football’s governing body for another four years.
