Police found four bodies of the same family from a house in Vavuniya who had committed suicide. Vavuniya Police said that it appears husband poisoned his wife and two children in a house on Goodshed Road, Vavuniya and he too had hanged himself from a beam of the roof.
The police said that the husband worked in a government institution and the wife was a school teacher in Vavuniya.
The two girls are three and nine years old.
Police said it has been revealed that the suicides were due to high debt. The husband of the family it is said had taken loans and was in a state where he could not repay them.
The Vavuniya police is investigating.
