Congress writes Rajya Sabha chairman to bring ‘privilege proceedings’ against PM ‘Nehru surname’ remark

New Delhi: As Bhartiya Janata Party is trying all tactics to get Wyanad Member of Parliament Rahul Gandhi suspended from the Lok Sabha over his alleged derogatory remark, made in London, on democracy in India, the congress sought a ‘privilege motion’ against PM Modi for making ‘insulting & demating’ remark against Rahul and Sonia Gandhi in parliament.

The move of the key opposition party is a bid to counter BJP’s attack on Rahul Gandhi. Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal approached Rajya Sabha Chairperson Jagdeep Dhankhar with a notice of a question of privilege against Prime Minister Narendra Modi under rule 188 of the upper house.

The Congress Counter hover over the comment made during the Motion of Thanks Thanks on the president’s speech by PM Modi.

During his speech PM questioned Congress’s family over not Using the “Nehru” surname.

In a letter to Rajya Sabha Chairman, KC Venugopal termed Prime Minister’s remark as ” absurd”.

During his speech on February 9, the PM said, “I find it very surprising, and I do not understand why none of the family members uses Nehru Surname”.

The BJP is demanding Rahul’s apology over his alleged disrespectful remark against ‘Indian democracy’ during his London visit.

Amid continuous uproar from both sides, the lower and upper houses of parliament remained suspended for consecutive four days.
