China claims to ‘warn’ away US destroyer that entered its waters illegally

New Delhi: Millitary of China has alleged that they tracked and warned away a United States warship, which illegally enetred waters around the disputed Paracel Islands, reported AlJazeera.

Meanwhile, the US Navy entirely dismissed the allegation saying that the ship was on a routine operation. It added that the US destroyer left on its own accord instead of being expelled by Chinese ships.

The Southern Theatre Command of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) on Thursday, as reported by Al Jazeera, said that a guided missile destroyer USS Milius intruded waters in the South China Sea.

Southern Theatre Command spokesperson Tian Junli said that the PLA asked the ship to leave as they have organised sea and air forces to track and monitor it in accordance with the law.

He added that a US vessel entered the disputed region without the due permission of the Chinese government to harm peace and stability.

“The theatre forces will maintain a high state of alert at all times and take all necessary measures to resolutely safeguard national sovereignty and security and peace and stability in the South China Sea,” he said, quoted the news agency.

The tension between China and US is brewing for a past few months. While Beijing seeks to advance territorial claims, the US has showed its eagerness to extend support to Asian countries to counter China’s assertiveness.
