Budget session: Opposition MPs march to ED office amid tight security

Budget session: Leaders of opposition parties on Wednesday took out march from Parliament House to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office. They will hand over their complaint to the agency on the Adani problem. Tight security has been deployed at Vijay Chowk and in front of the ED office due to the protest.

On the third day of Parliament, the BJP and Opposition remained at odds, exchanging jabs over accusations against the Adani company and Rahul Gandhi’s remarks in London. Both Houses were suspended amid the commotion until Wednesday at 2 p.m.

In the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, BJP members chanted for Rahul to apologise, while the opposition, led by the Congress, carried signs with quotes from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s addresses during his foreign trips. Without mentioning Gandhi specifically, Speaker of the House and Union Minister Piyush Goyal claimed that Gandhi had insulted the Parliament and other fundamental institutions and demanded an apology in the Rajya Sabha. During a recent UK tour, Gandhi had charged that the mechanisms of Indian democracy were under “brutal attack” and there was a “full-scale assault” on the country’s institutions.
