’80K cops, still Amritpal Singh escaped?’: HC chides at Punjab govt, cops

New Delhi: The Punjab and Haryana High Court Tuesday reprimanded the Aam Aadmi-led Punjab government over escape of ‘Waris Punjab De’ chief Amritpal Singh. The court asked how the accused fled despite having 80,000 police officials.

“You have 80,000 cops, how did Amritpal Singh escape?,” questioned the High Court with the government of Punjab.

The court further asked the police to submit a detailed report on the operation, which is being carried out to nab the seperatist leader who absconded during a unsuccessful attempt of Punjab Police of zeroing in Amritpal Singh. The High Court said that its is an intelligence failure.

However, at least 78 supporters of the Khalistani sympathiser were arrested during the massive crackdown on March 18. So far, the police have confiscates a number of illegal guns and weapons belong to the memebers of ‘Waris Punjab De’.

It is worth noting that the Punjab Police launched the operation a month later when the Khalistani sympathisers, in a huge number, were seen brandishing swords in air outside Ajnala Police Station in Amritsar.

Thousands of supporters staged the protest to demand the release of Amritpal Singh’s close aide Lovepreet Toofan, as reported earlier.

Amritpal Singh is a self-styled Sikh preacher who is on run and has been declared a fugitive by the Punjab Police. As per official sources, Singh was in close links with terrorist outfit ISI.

As per media reports, Singh is a loyalist to a UK-based Khalistani terrorist and trusted leader of the banned Babbar Khalsa International Paramjit Singh Pamma. Khanda often takes theoratical classes on how to radicalise Punjab youth.
