Amidst the hope of increase in dearness allowance, more than one crore central employees and pensioners of the country have got a big blow. The Central Government has categorically refused to give the DA arrear withheld during the Corona period. Due to this announcement of the central government, 65 lakh central employees and 48 lakh pensioners, who are waiting for the arrears of old dearness allowance, are dejected.
Tt was cleared by the government that there is no plan for DA arrears. Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary replied in writing that there is no plan to give arrears of DA and DR frozen during the Corona period to central employees and pensioners. He said that during the Corona period, Rs 34,402.32 crore was saved from the withheld dearness allowance of the employees. Which was used to stop the epidemic.
It is noted that during the Covid in the year 2020, three installments of DA and DR hike of central employees and pensioners were stopped. After January 2020, July 2020 and January 2021, it was restored in July 2021.
However, the government increased the DA by a one-time increase of 17 per cent for January 2020, June 2020 and January 2021. But during that time the frozen money was not paid to the employees. Since the improvement in the situation from Covid, the employees union has been continuously demanding payment of DA arrears of 18 months from the government. But the central government has once again flatly refused to give dearness allowance and dearness relief for 18 months.
