YouTuber Sepal ready to apologise to the Prelates - Attorney

Social media activist Sepal Amarasingha who was arrested for making defamatory statements on the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy has been further remanded till February 21 by Colombo Chief Magistrate Prasanna Alwis yesterday. 

Attorney Dharshana Kuruppu appearing on behalf of the suspect informed the Magistrate that he has informed in writing that his client will apologise from Mahanayake Theras regarding the defamatory statement that he made on his You Tube channel.

He also stated that the Attorney General was also informed in writing regarding this.

Senior Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris appearing on behalf of the Criminal Investigations Department stated that they are ready to act sympathetically in his case subject to two conditions. He further stated that it is appropriate to call this case in front of the Commissioner of the Buddhist Affairs, who lodged the complaint against Sepal Amarasinghe. Accordingly, the Magistrate issued notice on the Commissioner of the Buddhist Affairs to appear before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court on February 21.
