Women’s T20 World Cup 2023: Jemimah Rodrigues fifty powers India win vs Pakistan

New Delhi: A heroic fifty runs partnership between Jemimah Rodrigues and Richa Ghosh guided Indian Women’s team to a momentous 7-wickets win over Pakistan in their opening match of ICC T20 Women’s World Cup at the Newlands in Cape Town, South Africa.

With this win, India continues its dominance over Pakistan in the T20 World Cups, as they defeats them for the record seven wickets win in Sunday thrilling match.

Deepti Sharma strikes first

Earlier in the match, Pakistan had won the toss and chose to bat. Women in Blue started well with ball as Deepti Sharma struck first in the powerplay and shifted the momentum towards team India.

Pakistan on the other hand, made a quick recovery with Muneeba Ali and Bismah Maroof. But after the powerplay, Pakistan lost quick wickets as Radha Yadav and Pooja Vastrakar scalped in back to back overs. Thereafter, Bismah Maroof , who struck a decent fifty and Ayesha Naseem’s brilliant batting propelled Pakistan to 149/4 in 20 overs.

India needs 150 runs to win

India stepped in the ground in the second innings and had to chase 150 in 20 overs. India had a steady start and a scoring powerplay. But, then opener Yastika Bhatia fell prey to Sadia Iqbal after 17 off 20 balls.

Shafali Verma continues the momentum

Shafali Verma, played the quick firing knock, and Indian scoreboard was kept moving. With Shafali’s brilliance, India posted 50 runs in 7 overs, but then she departed after scoring 33 runs off 25 balls. India now required 85 to get from the last 10 overs.

Jemimah played match winning knock

Thereafter, Jemimah Rodrigues along with Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, keeps the scoreboard running. But then, India got another shock but this time it was Indian captain who returns to the dough-out. India now required 55 runs from last six overs.

However, the anchoring innings from Rodrigues and some big hits from Richa Gosh helped India to reach the target with seven ball left in the game.
