Two dead on Matara highway in Dodangoda

Two persons were reported dead when the car they were travelling in collided in the rear of a lorry parked beside the Southern Expressway in the Dodangoda area due to a mechanical issue on Tuesday night.

According to the police, the deceased 73 and 70 years old Kesara Warnasundaram and Tangarajah Nagasundaram of Thirukkovil are said to be the brothers of the same family.

The driver of the car is the son of one of the deceased and the driver’s aunty also was in the car at the time of the accident, police said. They have been admitted to the Nagoda Hospital in critical condition.

One of the deceased has been living in Canada and he came to Sri Lanka about two months ago. The other is a businessman.

They had faced this accident while on the way to participate in a party in the residence of one of their relations in Colombo.

The lorry belongs to a well-known supermarket chain in the country and had been transporting vegetables and coconut to a warehouse in Kerawalapitiya when the defect occurred.

Police are conducting investigations.
