Rs.50,000 fine for forging a Russian visa

A fine of Rs.50,000 was imposed on an accused who pleaded guilty to the charge of possessing a passport with a forged Russian visa by

 Minuwangoda Magistrate T.Thenabadu on February 21. The Katunayake Airport Criminal Investigation Department had filed charges against the defendant named Gnanasekaran Payuran who was fined thus.

The foreign travel ban imposed on the suspect was lifted. It was mentioned in court that the Katunayake airport authorities discovered that the suspect was preparing to travel to Russia with a forged Russian visa in his passport.
