Microsoft discontinues Authenticator app for Apple Watch, here’s why

New Delhi: Tech giant Microsoft has ended support for its two-factor authentication app “Microsoft Authenticator” on the Apple Watch.

The tech giant blamed the decision on watchOS being “incompatible with Authenticator’s security features,” 9To5Mac reports. However, the Authenticator app for iPhone is not affected by this change.

In December last year, the company announced that its two-step verification app would no longer support the Apple Watch as it would soon retire the app.

“In the upcoming January 2023 version of Authenticator for iOS, there will be no companion app for watchOS because it is not compatible with Authenticator’s security features. This means that you will not be able to install or use Authenticator on Apple Watch,” the obr mentioned.

“We therefore recommend that you delete Authenticator from your Apple Watch. This change only affects the Apple Watch, so you’ll still be able to use Authenticator on your other devices,” he added.
