Japan to grant US$ 38 Mn for health sector fuel requirements

The Japanese Government has agreed to grant 5 billion Japanese yen (US$ 38 million) to purchase fuel needed to maintain essential and urgent  services in the health sector, Cabinet Spokesman Mass Media Minister Dr.Bandula Gunawardane said.

He was speaking at the weekly Cabinet media briefing held yesterday at the Government Information Department.

The funds will be granted through Japan’s Economic and Social Development Programme to Sri Lanka, considering the prevailing financial situation in the country.

According to the Cabinet paper, the funds will be made available for the purchase of fuel, especially diesel, which is vital to maintain essential services in the health sector.

The Cabinet paper presented by the President as the Finance, Economic Stabilization and National Policies Minister to sign an agreement to secure the funds has been approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
