Foreign travel ban imposed Doctor ‘One Shot’

Colombo Additional Magistrate R.Jayasuriya yesterday imposed a foreign travel ban on a doctor known as ‘One Shot’ in Wellampitiya Wennawatte, over the death of a young man who died after the doctor allegedly administered the RANIPTIDINE vaccine to control his gastritis.

A doctor named Mohammad Maharuf Karim Mohammad Uwais, resident of Dematagoda Road, Wennawatte, Colombo 9, was banned from travelling abroad.

The mother of the deceased making a complaint to the Wellampitiya Police stated that her son had stomach inflammation and chest inflammation and he had been taken to a doctor known as ‘One Shot’ who treats patients in Wennawatte.

As the child’s condition was critical, she had said she asked the doctor to do whatever necessary to alleviate his condition and then the doctor injected the drug RANIPTIDINE and the child began shaking for about five minutes and his body became stiff.

Later, when the child was taken to the IDH Hospital, the complainant stated that she learned that her child had died. The Police told the complainant to file a complaint with the Medical Council regarding the incident and when investigating the doctor, the Police told the Court that they found he had even left his residence and fled.

The Police stated that he is an Ayurvedic doctor and that he is not capable of administering vaccines. A Court order was requested to call a report regarding the vaccine.
