Father, daughter drown in Pulasthipura

The Pulasthipura Police have launched an investigation into an incident where a father and daughter who had gone to view the Kumbukkanaaruwa

Oya at the Thambaala Galwala Junction on the Onegama road of the Pulasthipura Police Division yesterday afternoon (7) and had fallen into the torrent of the stream and been swept away in a current.

The police, area residents, police life-saving officers, Navy personnel and voluntary divers had got together immediately and commenced a search for the missing father and daughter. They had been able to find the two bodies of the missing persons about two kilometers away from where they had fallen into the water in Paranagama.

The deceased father was aged 46 years while his daughter who also lost her life was a 12-year-old. They were residents of Kattankudy and the father had been a teacher at a school in Onegama.

It has been revealed that the father and daughter had fallen into the stream when they were attempting to take a selfie.

The bodies have been placed at the Polonnaruwa Hospital.
