Cop caught pick pocketing inside bus

A police constable attached to the Colombo Port Police, who pick-pocketed and stole the mobile phone of a soldier inside a bus, had been caught by that soldier with the support of other passengers

and handed over to Peliyagoda Police. The suspect had been caught when he was to get down the bus near the Kelanitissa Power Station. The bus was heading to Kadawatha from Colombo.

The fact that the suspect is a police officer was known only after he was handed over to Peliyagoda Police on Sunday. He has been interdicted. The soldier who caught the suspect is Priyankara Madushan Dias, a resident of Dutugemunu Mawatha, Pattiya Handiya, Kelaniya.

When the suspect was caught, another woman, who identified him, had accused him of robbing her mobile phone inside a bus near Sugathadasa Stadium on January 15. She is a resident of Wellampitiya, Meethotamulla.

Peliyagoda Police have handed the suspect over to Grandpass Police as both incidents belong to that police division.

He was given personal bail on Monday after he was produced before the Hulftsdorp Magistrate’s Court.
