State Minister of Technology Kanaka Herath said that the Ministry of Technology will provide the necessary support and smart technology to turn the Colombo Port City into a smart city.

The State Minister said this while joining the Parliamentary debate held yesterday on two orders under the Colombo Port City Economic Commission Act.

He said that the work will be done in cooperation with other countries so as not to harm the environment

The State Minister also said that with the arrival of new investments, 5G technology will be introduced and actively implemented at the end of this year. He said that this technology has already been started in some places.

Commenting further, the State Minister said that the brain drain in this country will be reduced due to the new job opportunities created through the Colombo Port City.

“The brain drain has become a major challenge facing our country today. IT professionals are leaving our country in large numbers. International companies in this country hire professionals by paying dollars. Information Technology should be included as a subject for school and higher education,” he said.
