Youth who went missing in Diyawanna found

The body of the youth who went missing when he had gone fishing in the Diyawanna Oya and the boat had capsized was found yesterday at dawn, the Thalangama Police said. The deceased identified as Sayura Gimhan (18) is a resident of Buthgamuwa Road, Welikada, Rajagiriya.

The deceased had come together with three friends at dawn on January 26 to the Diyasaru Uyana near the Sri Jayawardenapura Parliamentary Complex.

Two of them had illegally entered through the security fence constructed round the Diyawanna Oya and gone there in a boat to catch fish.

At that time the boat the two young men were in had over turned and one of them had swum to the shore while the other had disappeared in the water.The young man who had swum to the shore had later informed the others who were on the banks of the Diyawanna Oya. They had got excited and then been seen by a three-wheeler driver who was driving on the road.

He had informed the police officers who were on the road and they had arrived at the scene. Two of the three young men had fled and one had been arrested by the police.

The police also took into their custody the boat which had been used for fishing.
