Suppliers fail to deliver eggs for NHSL, LRH last month

Egg suppliers have failed to fulfill the daily egg requirement of the Colombo National Hospital (NHSL) and the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children (LRH) in Colombo within the past one month due to the present egg shortage and the high price of eggs in the market, it was reported yesterday.

The weekly egg requirement of the NHSL is 9,000, the hospital’s Deputy Director Dr. Rukshan Bellana said.

LRH Director Dr. G. Wijesuriya said the daily egg requirement of the hospital is 1,900.

The suppliers had agreed to provide eggs to the hospitals at a flat rate throughout the year, but the unprecedented price hike has affected their business, the hospital authorities pointed out.
