The Matara Police on Saturday arrested a son who allegedly killed his mother and altered the crime scene to make his mother’s death had happened due to a fall in the bathroom.
Police said the son had first tried to kill his mother with a blow to the head using a club. As the mother had not died from the attack he had strangled her and then had taken the body to the bathroom to show that his mother died in a fall in the bathroom. This crime had happened on January 5. The victim Fathima Faritha is 59 years.
She was murdered by her 35-year-old son, Mohammad Masrifazis. Police investigations have revealed that the mother has adopted this son. Police say that he is married and resides in Dematagoda, Colombo. On January 5 he had gone to Matara and had committed this crime.
Investigations have also revealed that this mother had written all the property she had to her son while keeping her life interest. Police investigations have revealed that the mother was killed by the son with the intention of taking possession of the property in advance as he would have only owned her property after her death.
The police said during interrogations the suspect had confessed to the crime.
