SLAF Sergeant arrested for bashing peeping tom

The Anguruwatota Police said that in a clash that took place between two factions due to an incident of peeping into houses at night time, a person sustained serious injuries and was hospitalised.

They also stated that a Sergeant at the Ratmalana Air Force Camp connected  to the incident was taken into custody subsequent to him surrendering to the police together with the iron pole he had used to bash the victim.

Police said that a close relative of the sergeant who had peeked into houses at Anguruwathota Aegalhena junction area at night, a group of persons from the same village had assaulted this particular person on January 17 and that this incident was the result of that dispute.

According to the police, the suspect, the sergeant who was the son-in-law of the person alleged to have peeped into houses together with a son who is said to be serving in the army and a group of persons had on 18 night attacked the persons connected with the assault with iron poles and a cleaver.

A police officer said the injured person had received a blow from the cleaver to his head and right arm and had been admitted to the Horana Base Hospital in a critical condition. He stated further that a group of persons including an army soldier involved in the incident had fled the area and that investigations were underway to take them into custody.

The sergeant who is a suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Horana Magistrate’s Court.
