A total of 11,219 premises including educational, religious and Government buildings will be equipped with roof top solar panels under the Credit Line of USD 100 million from the Indian Government for Renewable Energy, Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekara said yesterday.
These premises include 374 National Schools, 25 State Universities, 20 National Colleges of Education, eight Teacher Training Colleges, 20 Technical Colleges (VTA/NAITA), 25 District Secretariats, 331 Divisional Secretariats, 79 ITDLH centres of Education, 220 Tri-Forces and Police Buildings, 824 Piriwens and 5kv system each for 9, 176 other religious institutes and other key Government buildings.
The Minister said 827 sites have already been surveyed. In addition, he said a separate programme is being implemented by the respective Provincial Councils and the Ministry of Health to include all the other Provincial schools and hospitals in a Roof Top Solar programme.
