Pera University Student’s Association President surrenders

The President of Peradeniya University Student’s Association, Chamodh Sathsara,  who was to be arrested over the assault on former vice-chancellor Professor Athula Senaratne, his son and family members and causing damage to his official residence, surrendered to court yesterday (18) through a lawyer.

Previously, 13 students including former President of the Peradeniya University Student’s Association Anuradha Vidanage were taken into custody and remanded.

When these students who were remanded were produced in court yesterday, Magistrate Sreenith Wijesekera ordered that the fourteen students including Chamodh Sathsara and Anuradha

Vidanage be remanded until February 1.

The administration of the Peradeniya University took steps to annul the studentship of these 14 students temporarily in connection with attacking the Professor, his family members and his official residence.

Although lawyers representing the students requested bail on their behalf, the Magistrate rejected the requests.
