Kriti Sanon to Vidya Balan: Actresses who gained weight for movie roles

New Delhi: When it comes to maintaining health and developing a sculpted figure, audiences have always looked up to celebrities. Many celebrities like Kriti Sanon, Shilpa Shetty, among others, utilise their social media platforms to encourage their fans to adopt a healthy lifestyle and work out in the gym. While being fit is crucial in the industry, actors are often urged to gain weight based on the screenplay.

Having said that, here are a list of 5 female actors who gained significant weight to adapt to their onscreen roles.

Kriti Sanon

Kriti Sanon gained 15 kgs for her part as a surrogate mother in Mimi. She wanted to gain weight for the film’s second schedule so that she could seem pregnant without wearing prosthetics.

Bhumi Pednekar

She rose to prominence by playing an overweight homemaker in her debut film, ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha,’ which caused many to believe she was always overweight. Pednekar, on the other hand, was a model who gained 30 kg for the role and refused to wear a fat suit.

Nimrat Kaur

For her character of Bimla Devi in Dasvi, Nimrat Kaur had to really look different. The actress went on a diet that had her consume samosas. She gained 15kg to get into character.

Vidya Balan

For The Dirty Picture, Vidya Balan had to gain weight. The actress’s career was altered by this film. She had supposedly gained 12 kg in order to imitate Silk Smitha, the siren of yesteryear.

 

Pihu Sand

This newcomer who shared screen space with talents like Anil Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai, and Rajkummar Rao in the film, ‘Fanney Khan’, has gone the extra mile for her role. Pihu revealed that she had to work hard for her transformation as Lata, an aspiring singer and performer. She had to put on 20kgs for the role.
