Karnataka: Flipkart fined to pay Rs 42,000 to customer for THIS reason

New Delhi: E-commerce giant Flipkart has been fined by the Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission of Bengaluru for not honoring the order of a mobile phone/cellphone to a customer even after the buyer had made the full payment in advance.

In its recent judgment, the commission asked the e-commerce company to pay a sum of Rs 12,499 (cost of the mobile phone) with 12 percent annual interest, as well as a fine of Rs 20,000 and Rs 10,000 as legal expenses. The verdict was delivered by Chairman M Shobha and Member Renukadevi Deshabande.

Divyashree. J., a resident of Rajajinagar, Bengaluru, filed a complaint against Flipkart in the matter citing that she had booked a mobile phone worth Rs 12,499 from the e-commerce platform on January 15, 2022 and it was expected to be delivered the next day.

She claimed that the company received the full payment but did not deliver the mobile to her. Even though the court served notice on the company, Flipkart did not send its representative to the commission.

The Bengaluru consumer court’s order said that Flipkart not only showed “gross negligence” in terms of services but also followed unethical practices. The customer suffered financial loss and “psychological trauma” because the phone was not delivered to her on time, the order added.

The customer paid the installments without the mobile being delivered to her and also contacted the customer line many times, the order stated.
