IND vs AUS 2023: Maxewell to miss out from Test in India

New Delhi: Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell will not be able to play the forthcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy due to his ligament injury in his foot. India and Australia are scheduled to play four matches’ Test series in India starting from 9 February in Nagpur.

“Probably will nag at me for the rest of my life,” said Maxwell during a Big Bash League game on Fox Cricket.

“It’s nice getting the opportunity to watch your teammates play, especially over there. I think they’ve got the squad that’s probably as good as I’ve seen go over to India since I’ve been watching Tests over there, anyway,” he added.

The 34-year-old suffered a broken fibula in his left leg in an incident in November. He also underwent surgery to reset the bone. However, he is still recovering.

Australia test drought in India since 2004

India holds the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after defeating Australia in 2020-21. In the previous meeting, India clinched the trophy and won the last match in Australia’s Gabba, riding on Rishabh Pant’s match winning knock of 89*. This was the first time Australia lost a Test match at the Gabba since 1988.

Australia who has not won the test series in India since 2004, will meet India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The two will play the second Test in Delhi (February 17-21) followed by 3rd in Dharamsala (March 1-5) and 4th in Ahmedabad (March 9-13).

India-Australia will play 3-matches ODI series

After the Test series, Australia will play 3-matches One Day International (ODI) from 17 March. The scheudule will be: Mumbai (March 17), Visakhapatnam (March 19) and Chennai (March 22).

Glenn Maxwell is expected to make a comeback in the white ball series. “I dare say towards the end of January, he may be available or hitting some cricket balls to try and get back to play some state cricket and Shield cricket to hopefully get on that plane for the One-Day tour of India for Australia,” Melbourne Stars coach David Hussey had told SEN earlier this month.
