GPPSB recruitment exam cancelled due to paper leak; Over 9 lakh applied for 1,181 posts

Ahmedabad: The state government has cancelled the Gujarat Panchayat Service Selection Board (GPSSB) scheduled on Sunday, due to an alleged paper leak, hours before the exam could start.

The news agency PTI quoted an official from the state panchayat exam board saying that the police have detained one suspect in the matter. The police was informed about the alleged paper leak through a tip-off which led to the suspect.

A copy of the exam paper was recovered from the detainee. After which, the board was informed who decided to postpone the examination in the view of wider interest of other candidates.

In an official statement, the board said, “The junior clerk (administrative/accounting) exam was to be conducted in different districts between 11 am and 12 noon on January 29. As per the information received from the police early Sunday morning, they detained a suspect and upon his interrogation seized a copy of the question paper from his possession,” reported the PTI.

Meanwhile, Gujarat Congress spokesperson Manish Doshi has alleged that with this postponement, the toll of cancellation of government exams due to the paper leak has mounted to 15 in the past 12 years.

The leader further accused the Bharatiya Janata Party-led state government of pretending to take strict action while the culprits are roaming freely outside as no arrests were made. He added that the governmnent is playing with the future of students.

Gujarat Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) president Isudan Gadhvi also joined a row of condemning the BJP over rising incidents of paper leak and said, “See, to what extent the BJP is making children cry! The one who votes for BJP and gets it done, must be thinking everyday as to who will suffer this sin!”
