Dollar payments allowed for tourists to national parks soon

The Wildlife and Forest Conservation Ministry will introduce a system enabling foreigners entering national parks to make  dollar payments for their entrance tickets from next week.

This system is expected to be launched from the Yala National Park by the second week of January, a Ministry spokesman the told the Daily News.

In addition, Wildlife and Forest Conservation Minister Mahinda Amaraweera has instructed Ministry officials to increase the quantity and the quality of the facilities provided to foreign tourists, who visit the Yala National Park in large numbers these days.

The minister has also instructed officials to expedite the construction of the resting place for the tourists in the national park and to open two the new circuit bungalows for tourists with immediate effect. Meanwhile, the Wildlife Department said that it has earned a record income of Rs.68 million from tourists who visited the Yala National Park within 10 days from December 23, 2022 to January 2, 2023. Of that amount, the highest income recorded in a single day was reported on January 2 and the amount is Rs.11 million, the Department said.
