Varanasi: The 4-day Hot Air Balloon and Boat Festival has begun in Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. Deputy Director of State Tourism Preeti Srivastava has appealed people to make this festival a major tourism program of the country.

“We have to make Varanasi the country’s number one tourist destination. Last year 7.5 cr tourists visited the city. We are introducing different activities to keep tourists engaged,” said Preeti Srivastava, Deputy Director of State Tourism.

She also informed about the mapping of a 3 km stretch of river Ganga between Dashashwamedh and Namo Ghats. The festival includes a boat race, which will be held from January 17 to 20. The Balloon Festival offers morning flights, tethered flights and night lighting shows for public.

The UP Tourism Department released a shield-shaped logo for the event having ‘Kashi Balloon and Boat Festival’ written on it, said Preeti Srivastava. She also said that the department would also introduce inflatable balloons and floating cylinders to brand the event.

She also said that paramotor activities will also be organised during the festival. Agencies from five countries including the United States (US), Japan and Canada have been invited to the Hot Air Balloon Fest. It has been said by the department that 12 pilots from five countries of India are participating in the festival.
