The public sector employees to be granted leave for five years with no pay will be selected only with the approval given by the head of the relevant employee, the Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government said.
Currently, the ministry has received 25,000 applications under this leave scheme and 1,150 of them have been approved, the Ministry said.
Under the Public Administration Circular No 14/2022 dated June 22, 2022 public officers are able to obtain leave with no pay to be spent in or out of Sri Lanka subject to a total period of five years at the maximum.
Those approved applications have been submitted within the past six months and the number of applications submitted is expected to go up in the coming year, the ministry further said.
Most of the applications have been sent seeking leave to go for jobs in Korea, but many of them have been rejected due to language related issues, the ministry said.
