NTC to regulate three wheelers, school vans and office buses - Minister Dr. Gunawardena

Transport, Highways and Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardena said that arrangements will be made to regulate the passenger transport three wheelers, school vans and office buses through the National Transport Commission (NTC) in the future.

The Minister was speaking at a meeting to discuss the issues faced by the Expressway bus owners, organised by the National Transport Commission was held at the commission premises yesterday under the patronage of Transport, Highways and Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardena. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that he always acts in fair manner in all matters including the granting of passenger transport licences as the Transport Minister.

He said that he has focused special attention on the use of electric buses with an objective of curbing huge expenditure on the use of fossil fuel in face of an unprecedented economic crisis in the country Minister Dr.Gunawardena said steps have already been taken to convert three wheelers to run on electricity with the assistance of the United Nations Development Programme and the World Bank.

Transport and Highways Ministry Secretary and the National Transport Commission Chairman and a group of Expressway bus owners participated in the meeting.
