Nihal Nelson’s funeral held

Funeral of versatile vocalist, composer and lyricist Nihal Nelson was held at the grounds of Soysapura Housing Scheme amidst a large number of colleagues and fans.

Nelson died at his home on December 13. He was 76. His body was taken to the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation on Wednesday where hundreds of his fans including politicians paid their lasts respects to the veteran vocalist who became a household name He was the first Sinhala vocalist to have his songs distributed in cassette form and also to cut the first LP disc with the mega hit “Meka Gune Aiyage Bajaw Daana Kamare” about a carefree individual who holds Baila sessions in his room. He also pioneered Digital Compact Disc (CD) recordings. He released a total of 113 albums, which is a record for a Sri Lankan artiste.
